The Last Sherpas Of Europe

Description

Sherpas are usually native to the mountainous regions of Nepal and the Himalayas. These Tibetan mountain people traditionally work there as porters. But the profession also exists in Europe. In the High Tatra National Park in Slovakia, these so called "last European Sherpas", carry food, drinks and materials to the mountain lodges. Sometimes with as much as 100 kilograms (220 lbs.) on their backs. Without them, the mountain huts cannot be sustained. Twice a year, these Slovakian Sherpas compete to determine the fastest carrier.
