One congregation and Germany's far-right | DW Documentary

Description

Catholic and Protestant bishops are both agreed that Christianity and the AfD's far-right policies are incompatible. Protestant pastor Beatrix Spreng has been squaring up to the conflict for years.

Pastor Beatrix Spreng has a small congregation, but she faces a huge task. In Joachimsthal in the eastern German state of Brandenburg, almost a quarter of the population voted for the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany party in the last elections. The AfD is the biggest opposition party in Germany's parliament. But what can the church do about it? Berlin's Protestant bishop Markus Dröge says that Christianity and the AfD are incompatible. But while many pastors are reluctant to address the issue, Beatrix Spreng has been fighting against the rise of the far-right for years - and does not intend to stop now. Exclude or Embrace?
